I’ve said it before and I’ll keep saying it: your brain and gut are in constant communication. That’s not woo-woo; it’s backed by science. In fact, new studies are proving just how much our gut microbiota influence mental health conditions like OCD and social anxiety disorder. Researchers have found that certain bacteria (like proteobacteria) may protect against OCD, while others (like bacillus) could increase the risk.

When you support your gut health, you’re also supporting your mental clarity, mood, and overall well-being.


Why pH Levels in Your Poop Matter

Most people never think about the acidity or alkalinity of their poop—but your stool’s pH is actually a critical marker of digestive health. Ideally, your stool should fall within a pH range of 6.4 to 7.4. But what if it's too acidic or too alkaline?


Low (Acidic) Stool pH Could Mean:

  • Carbohydrate malabsorption: Your body isn't properly digesting sugars, which ferment in your gut and lower your stool’s pH.

  • SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth): Often misdiagnosed as IBS.

  • Rapid transit time: Your body doesn’t have time to absorb nutrients.

  • Lactose intolerance or infections like E. coli can also lower pH.


High (Alkaline) Stool pH Could Mean:

  • Deficiency of good bacteria: You’re not producing enough short-chain fatty acids.

  • Low-fiber diet: Your gut isn’t being fed properly.

  • Overconsumption of protein and fat without balance.

  • Certain medications or underlying diseases.

Bottom line: If your gut is out of balance, your health will be too.
