Why Is Vitamin D The Kim Kardashian Of Vitamins. The Truth About Micronutrients.

This week on the Harmony With Food Radio Show we continued our conversation on weight loss resistance and the microbiome, and also talked about which micronutrients are most important for gut health, and went over a Bio Unique Boutique case study!

Micronutrients for Gut Health

  • Vitamin A - supports mucosal barrier healing and can be helpful for anyone that may have ulcers. Vitamin A is a fat-soluble vitamin and needs to be something

  • Vitamin B Complex - supports muscle tone throughout the GI tract and helps maintain liver health.

  • B1 - helps with hydrochloric acid production that breaks down food

  • B2 (Riboflavin) - supports mucosal barrier protection

  • B3 (Niacin) - helps with hydrochloric acid production

  • B5 - supports fat conversion to help us break down fat.

  • B6 - also helps with hydrochloric acid production.

  • B9 (Folate) - supports digestion, helps produce more protein when needed, and helps maintain liver health and support the utilization of iron in the body.

  • B12 - supports muscle tissue in the digestive tract lining and works synergistically with folate.

  • Choline - supports liver and gallbladder function.

  • Vitamin C - supports the formation of collagen, aids in healthy hair, teeth, and gums, and supports iron absorption. The bioflavonoids in Vitamin C help stimulate bile production.

  • Chromium - is important for metabolism and helps with carbohydrate utilization and the synthesis of fat and cholesterol.

  • Vitamin D - deficiency has been linked to mood problems, depression, cancer, and more.

  • Iron - a key nutrient for red blood cells and the transport of oxygen to tissues for healing - including those in your digestive tract.

  • Magnesium - relaxes the smooth muscles and aids in motility, which is how quickly food moves through your GI tract. It can be helpful for constipation.

These are just a few of the nutrients that we will look at with micronutrient testing.

After doing microbiome testing, the next step is for me to determine how we are going to treat what comes up on the test. Some of the things I like to use are:

  • Glutamine

  • Glutathione

  • Berberine

  • Cat's Claw

  • Caprylic Acid

  • Burberry

  • Olive Leaf

  • Garlic

  • Oregano extract

  • Oregon Grape

  • Betaine HCL

Bio Unique Boutique Client Case Study

I had a client in her 40s who had some extra weight and felt like she was putting weight on really easily. She used to be a weight lifter and knew that lifting weights and gaining muscle was really important for metabolism (the more muscle you have, the faster your metabolism is).
